Arc Fault Detection In Student Accomodation – Vallectric

With their roots dating back to the 1920’s, Vallectric have grown out of their West Yorkshire origins and now proudly offer a broad range of mechanical, electrical and complimentary installation services throughout the UK. In a recent project they turned to Proteus Consumer to provide Arc Fault Detection in a student accommodation building.
As part of a redevelopment, Vallectric were involved in building a 144-bedroom student accommodation complex sited in Bath. The project involved not only the student block but also rework to the existing cricket club positioned alongside the River Avon. Ensuring that the site provided complete circuit protection, Vallectric specified four different configurations of isolatorcontrolled metalclad consumer units to work with the variation of room types within the complex, including studio apartments, twin rooms and 5 – 11 bed flats; plus the added requirement of Arc Fault detection for all circuits.
Having launched our Arc Fault Detection Device in late 2019, Vallectric chose the Proteus Consumer Unit offering, pre-populated with a range of single module Arc Fault Detection Devices combined with RCBOs. In addition to this, direct connect MID-approved Modbus meters for energy consumption monitoring were included to integrate with the universities existing building management system.

The Proteus Arc Fault Detection Devices are single module, double pole switching and fit any of our consumer units manufactured within the last 30 years. This is due to the busbar fixing arrangement remaining consistent during this time – a design criteria we have chosen to retain over the years and for the future. They are readily available throughout our UK distributors and range from 6A – 40A Type A, 30mA with B or C Curve options suitable for single or 3 phase distribution boards.
The pre-populated consumer units were built and despatched direct-to-site, saving the Vallectric team a huge amount of time and expenditure on labour by utilising our Midlands-based manufacturing facilities. 41 pre-populated consumer units were manufactured and despatched within a three-week time frame, including the addition of laser-etching the Vallectric logo to the front cover of the consumer units.
Finally, to ensure complete satisfaction on this order, as well as offering comprehensive protection through our consumer units, we also manufactured the main MCCB 400A 4P incoming panel board from our Telford-based 400V switchgear factory Proteus Industrial.
