Single Module Type B RCBO
Spencer Yates2025-11-13T15:55:17+00:00Introducing the latest addition to our Proteus Switchgear range of innovative circuit protection devices: a Type B single module RCBO, with a 30mA residual current sensitivity. This device comes with bidirectional power flow capability, making it the ideal solution for the renewables sector.
A Type B RCBO offers comprehensive protection by detecting and breaking circuits in case of overcurrent, short circuits, and earth fault leakage. Unlike standard RCBOs, Type B RCBOs are designed to detect complex waveforms and DC residual currents, making them ideal for installations with sophisticated electronics such as electric vehicle (EV) chargers, solar panels, and heat pumps. As the UK transitions towards cleaner energy sources and renewable energy grows, homes and small commercial installations are increasingly generating their own electricity through solar PV systems. This generates the need for devices that can handle bidirectional power flow, as energy can flow both to and from the grid.
Our new single module Type B RCBO stands out in the market due to its single module nature. Fitting within a single module, offers space-saving benefits in crowded distribution boards – a critical advantage in modern electrical installations where space is at a premium or when retrofitting. Despite its small footprint, it maintains high performance with a 6kA short circuit rating, available in B or C curve, providing the protection and reliability our customers expect from a Proteus product.
This new RCBO also complements the rest of our product portfolio, which includes advanced circuit protection solutions for residential and commercial use. The bidirectional power capability of this RCBO aligns with the increasing need to manage power from renewable sources, giving installers the confidence to support sustainable energy projects without compromising on safety.
Proteus remains committed to innovation, offering cutting-edge solutions to meet the evolving demands of the UK’s electrical industry. For ease of identification, we laser etch our own bidirectional symbol on the front face of all compliant devices.
